Positioning a BAi Reader is easy

The BAi Reader operates on line of sight. When decals pass the laser lines, in the correct orientation, they will be read. There are no radio interference issues to worry about.
When deciding on a location to install the BAi Reader, there are three things to consider:
  • Which side of the vehicle will it be mounted?
  • How far in front of the gate / barrier arm is it placed?
  • How far off to the side of the lane is it installed?

Which side of the road?

First, decide which side of the road you plan to install the BAi Reader. If you will have multiple entrances with Readers, check for an entrance that requires the Reader to be on a particular side. For example, you may have a multi-lane front entrance that could work with the Reader on either side. However, you may also have a back entrance with only one lane where you'll need to install on the passenger side. Once you determine that an entrance requires the Reader to be on a specific side, all other entrances must be installed on that side as well. This allows you to place Decals on the correct side of the vehicle to work at all entrances.

How far from the gate or barrier arm?

BAi Readers get placed 25 ft before entry gates.

How far from the gate or barrier arm?

We recommend you install the BAi Reader approximately 25' before the gate or barrier arm. The important thing is that the Reader should be far enough from the gate that decals will pass the Reader before the front of the vehicle stops at the gate.

How far off the road?

BAi Readers are gauranteed to read BAi Decals 6 ft away.

How far off the road?

BAi Readers have a guaranteed read range of 6' from the reader using standard BAi Decals. Vehicles pass the Barcode Reader between 2' and 6' away. We call this the guaranteed read zone.
The 2' minimum protects the Reader from being hit by large truck mirrors and allows the reading area time to expand to a usable size.
The 6' maximum is the distance we guarantee BAi Decals operate. Any further and performance will gradually decline. We recommend using bollards, planters, or road markings to guide vehicles so that the decal passes within this range. Remember only the decal needs to be within 6', not the entire vehicle.
